Weather permitting,  Dan Joe Kelleher and I will record the 2.00 p.m. Mass scheduled to be celebrated at “The City” in Shrone on this Sunday, 1st May 2011.   It will then be transmitted on LTV at 5.30 p.m. on Sunday…the very same evening thanks to Dan Joe’s dedication to Local Television.   The transmission will then be followed by a repeat of this week’s LTV1 and LTV2 programmes bringing us to the very end of this season’s LTV broadcasts.    We thank you for being such loyal Viewers and wish you all a very Happy Summer and look forward to a new LTV season in the Autumn.   (S.R.)

Entitled “The Secret History of the Eurovision” this major documentary, part of which was filmed here in Millstreet in September 2010 when Niamh Kavanagh and the Duggan Family participated in comprehensive interviews, will be broadcast on RTÉ1 television on this Monday  from 10.30 p.m until 12.15 a.m..

One of the real heroes of today's Monster MAC - Jeremiah Keating. We captured hundreds of images at the truly exciting event and we shall share highlights of the occasion shortly.

Jim McSweeney has added another collection taken at the Vintage Day last Sunday. This time it’s an album of very interesting miscellaneous photos, of which a few are shown above but the full album can can be viewed on Facebook

While Kate Middleton was getting pampered in preparation for her wedding yesterday, bride-to-be Kate Buckley from Kilcorney in Cork was spending the eve of her big day making sure her dairy cows were milked, fed and happy before taking care of herself.
“I was supposed to get my nails done on Tuesday but it didn’t happen,” explained bride-to-be Kate.
Kate said they got engaged last year around August, and the royal couple announced their engagement a short time after.
Meanwhile, Kate’s fiance and fellow dairy farmer William Casey, from Berrings, was also spending the day farming with his father in Inniscarra.
“Our friends and relatives were sending messages and paper clippings of the royal engagement for a joke, and continue reading…

Dia is mhuire diobh go leir a cairde and welcome to News Report 1061 from Millstreet.

Fondest greetings dear listeners and I wish you all the very best on this lovely Tuesday morning of Easter Week,

Fine weather prevailed all during Holy Week and our Church ceremonies drew attendances like never before. Our Parish church was crowded at 9pm Holy Thursday, 3pm  Good Friday, and on Holy Saturday both for the Polish Mass in the afternoon  and the Vigil Mass at 9 that night, again on Easter Sunday the crowds came for the 11.30 Mass. And our priests held confessions at every opportunity throughout. Again they were very well attended. Parish Priest Fr. Jack FitzGerald thanked all those who helped in so many ways to make our Easter so meaningful for everyone.

Next Sunday will see the Divine Mercy Devotions in our Parish Church starting with confessions at 2.30 followed by the Chapel of Mercy at 3pm. The Novena which started on Good Friday will end that day. May 1st.

Due to the painting of the Church there will be no choir until further notice.

This is part of an article by Ellen Puff on finding her ancestors in Kilcorney which appears on the Tourism Ireland website:

… In Ireland, allow yourself time, even more time than you think you might need, to explore, to talk, and to listen. I am lucky enough to have inherited my father’s gift of gab and my mother’s red hair. So, almost everyone that I met was willing to talk and/or help to investigate my family lines. The Irish love to talk and you never know what you might learn from even the most inconspicuous person. Real talking and listening take time.

Also, driving in Ireland is difficult at best. I rented a car for three weeks and chose to drive because my family’s townlands were literally “off the beaten path” and, after years of research, I wanted to stand on our terra firma. My Shea side of the family was from Carragraigue, Drumtarriff Parish, Cork. continue reading…

Millstreet Celtic are closing in on winning their division and securing promotion to the next division up. They have two games left, both against the other top teams in the division, and if they can secure 4 points they will definitely be champions, or if they finish on the same number of points as Crescent, there will be a playoff. The remaining games are

  • Thursday 28th April 6:45pm:  Millstreet v Rylane – Town Park (Result: Millstreet 5 Rylane 0)
  • Sunday 1st May 10:45am: Millstreet v Crescent – Town Park

They need your support for the final two games to push them over the line, so get out and support them in the Town Park.

They must be into drinking lunatic juice or smoking wizzy weed
The Millstreet Town Park vandals are head cases indeed
Perhaps venting their frustration on society
But their vandalizing of a beautiful timber fence does seem all wrong to me
.
The praises of such people none ever do sing
Any honour to their towns their type never do bring

Dedicated Volunteers at Millstreet's very successful Vintage Day at Green Glens. From left: Kathleen Healy, Sheila Murphy and her son, Kevin. Kevin was the official Health & Safety Officer at the huge event. We are presently preparing a full feature on the superbly enjoyable and most impressive occasion.

Tony Lane from Kinsale (on right of commemorative wreath) delivered an excellent address at Millstreet's National Monument on Easter Sunday 2011. The annual event was attended by a large gathering blessed with good weather. Millstreet Pipe Band, as always, added so much to the important occasion. We are presently preparing a full feature on the significant event.

Jim McSweeney has published another eighty odd photos of the cars at the Vintage and Family Fun Day in the Green Glens on Facebook. This is on top of his album of tractors and farm machinery which we detailed yesterday. (again you’ll have to be logged into FB to see them)

More photo albums have been posted on photoBucket by Colm who had his own Escort on display
