Fondest greetings dear listeners and I wish you all the very best on this cold but sunny Tuesday morning.

Last Friday night March 26th was a momentous occasion for our Pipe Band.  They celebrated their 60th anniversary at the Dromhall Hotel joined by members of our clergy, a large number of the general public as well as all of the band members themselves and their families and relatives. A special screen was set up and there was an ongoing film of all the bands history on show, before and during the meal. The two remaining founder members, Liam Coffee and Tim O Shea, came in for special mention during the speeches. And there was great emphasis on the number of young people who have come forward to join, thus ensuring the future of the band. A special anniversary Plaque was presented to each member and a special presentation was made to the band on behalf of the Community Council. Following the formalities the night was danced away to the lovely music of the popular Kelt.

The 30th anniversary of Medjugori occurs this year .Please contact John O Connell for details of a Pilgrimmage that is going there on September 3rd. His number as always 026 40007.

The Millstreet Development Group will hold a Workshop at the Wallis Arms Hotel on Tuesday  of next week April 5th. from 2 to 4 pm. The aim of the workshop is to develop a workable plan for Millstreet .Contact Nicola McMahon for details ,at 087  901 9001, or Vericona at 087241 99 29.

A note from our Twinning Group to say that they are organising a trip to our Twin Town in Brittany, Pommerit le Vicomte on the last week in August. To celebrate 25 years of the project. Those willing to join can contact Ann Keane  087 950 92 56 or any member.

 

The Coffee Morning for Daffodil Day realised over €900 on Thursday last, with a considerable amount being collected on the flag-day that was held in the town on Friday. Many thanks to all those who gave and well done to those who did the actual work.

 

Congratulations to all the children who will received the Sacrament of Confirmation  here and in Dromtarriffe to-day. Here in Millstreet Mass is at three o’clock. May the Holy Spirit guide them in the years ahead.

 

And many congratulations to our U21 football team who defeated Cullen in the Duhallow Final which was held in Knocknagree at the weekend.

 

An important notice here from our Bog Committee to say that their meeting which was scheduled for to-night has been deferred because of bereavement and will be held on the same night and time next week.

 

Sunday next April 3rd is Mothers Day and our beautiful Country Park is pulling out all the stops to ensure that Mothers everywhere will have a gala time. Admission is free at the gate the gourmet restaurant will be up and running , there will be music, tours of the park, just to mention a few items from their list of events. Booking for lunch is advisable, and the number there 029 70810.

 

Our Walking Festival will be held on April 9th & 10th, A special Welcome evening will be held at the Wallis Arms Hotel on Friday evening April 8th.There will be a guest speaker at 9pm and there will be a chance for people to meet fellow walkers. And check out the planned routes. There are categories to suit all tastes from strenuous, to moderate, to easy. Family groups ,and groups of friends of any age, are welcome ,thee will be a back-up service to see to any needs. It’s all about being out and about and having fun.

And the Monster  Millstreet Athletic Challenge,(Monster MAC.) will be held on the May Bank Holiday Weekend in the Country Park, Mushera Mountain, as well a miles of our country roads  involving kayaking, cycling and running. It is attracting huge attention. See full details on our Website.

 

Our Vintage group will hold their monster Vintage and Family Day at the Green Glens Arena on Easter Sunday April 24th. Proceeds to our local Hospital and The Canon O Donovan Centre.

This is National Clean-up Month and  Cullen National School  have arranged a full make over of their lovely Village . Their Anti Litter team will meet at the Church Yard at 4.30 this Friday evening with the view of spending an hour cleaning all the places that are within the footpaths areas.All volunteers are welcome and they want to thank IRD Duhallow for providing the litter-picking equipment.

 

Our people are contributing every week towards our church restoration Fund. And the debt of €4m. is slowly but surely reducing. Now the committee can see their way to have or church painted. And I want to congratulate the Ford Family who have secured the contract.

 

The busy Transition Students of the Community School will hold their gala fashion Show at the School on Thursday April 7th ,Proceeds to various charities. Always a most enjoyable occasion. For details ring the school at 029 70087.
