Fondest greetings dear listeners and I wish you all the very best on this nice  crisp and seasonal Tuesday morning.

On behalf of our Community I want to extend our sincerest sympathy to the people of Japan on their recent disasters. Alps Electric which is a Japanese Company has been our best employer here in Millstreet for many years and our people have forged many close  links with them.  They can be assured of our prayers and support in these difficult times.

 

As we near St Patrick’s Day, preparations are going well with lots of our shops and stores in the town already decorated for the occasion. Please do all you can to help those who are organising the parade itself which will be held at 5pm on this Thursday March 17th. A few more stewards are needed, you can give your name to any committee member and they will be glad of your help. There are lots of prizes to be won with no less than six or seven  categories on the list plus a prize for the best dressed window. We will have Pipe Band music as well as traditional music golore. The Wallis Arms Hotel will be open for warming snacks and meals as well as the many other food outlets in the town and we have hundreds of off – street parking places. So it only remains for me to wish you a very enjoyable day in honour of our Patron Saint.

But please let me remind you that on to-morrow Wednesday, the eve of  St. Patricks Day we have a special Shopping spree  in the town, with over twenty of our stores reducing their prices by ten per cent.

I want to congratulate the people of Rathmore who held their first ever St Patrick’s Day parade on Sunday last March 13st. It was very well supported, and a great social occasion for  their community.

 

Not to be outdone, Carriginma will hold their first ever parade on Sunday March 20th. Starting at 2pm. and promises to be great. The Treshing Mill Boys will provide the music. Their program  is wide and varied  with lots of surprises lined up.  Those wishing to take part please your details to Matt or Seanie at the Pub.

Following the St Patrick’s Day celebrations our Development Group will get right down to putting the final  touches to their Walking Festival which will held here on April 9/10, which will take in parts of the Duhallow Way the Mushera Way and the Bearra Way. A full program is planned with walks to suit all ages, and already some of our various clubs and groups are preparing to take part. Walkers from all partsof the country are showing interest and when they sample our beautiful scenery and other features including  Music sessions , and our hospitality we are confidant that they will want to come back for more.

On April 24th our Vintage Club will host the vintage Rally & Family Day at the Green Glens Arena .Proceeds will go to our Local Community Hospital and our Day Care Centre. Those wishing to get involved please contact 087 153 48 03.

Our Pipe Band Social takes place at the Dromhall Hotel in Killarney on this Saturday night March 26th.And we congratulate them  as they celebrate 60 years of unbroken service . Tickets available from any member or from the Credit Union..

 

A gala, Womens Christmas, kind of party for the ladies will be held at the pub in Carriganima on Friday March 25th.

 

Millsteet Gramaphone Circle Meeting this Friday night March 18th, at the Canon O Donovan Centre starting at 8.15 Presenter Sean Radley.

 

The Sam Maguire made a very welcome visit to Tarrants Bar on Saturday night and on  next Tuesday night March 22nd it will  again be made very welcome at the Aubane Social Centre.

 

Still with Aubane. Historian supreme Jack Lane informs us that an extension of his wonderful book Millstreet Miscellany, is on its way to the shops right now and will be on sale at Wordsworth shortly. @ €10.

Next Monday night March 21st marks the end of another Weigh-In in Cullen. It will be a night of prize-giving a refreshments and music and  all card holders are asked to please bring their cards & money as soon as possible.

 

Church Gate collection in aid of Cope will be taken up in Ballydaly Cullen & Millstreet this weekend. Please give generously.

Millstreet  Instrumental  Music Group enjoyed success in the County semi final to the Scór na bPaistí hosted in Ballydehob last Sunday.They now advance to a county final in the Eire Og GAA Pavilion, Ovens on Sunday, April 3.

Millstreet overcame Kilbrin in the Duhallow Under 21 Football Championship semi final in Knocknagree on Friday night. Millstreet repeated their success on a follow up win over Kilbrin in the Ducon Cup on Sunday.

At underage level, Millstreet host Mitchelstown in the U14 Football League in Millstreet on Saturday at 2.30pm while on Sunday, Millstreet are home to Newmarket in the Minor A Football League  with a 12 noon throw in.

 

Here are the results of this weeks parish lotto draw which was held at Tarrants Bar on Sunday night.  Numbers drawn were 4, 17, 18, 28 and the Jackpot was not won. €100 went to Betty Goggin, the seller was Grace’s Salon and they got €50 sellers prize, €50 went to Bill Buckley, Inchemay, €20 each to Mary Coleman, Minor Row, Robert Kelleher, Oaklawn. Maura Moylan, Coole, Rachel Murphy, Clara, Noel FitzGerald, Lackadota. Tadg McSweeney, Carriganima And Pat Murphy, Killarney Rd. Jackpot for next week €7,800 the draw at the Bush Bar on Sunday night.

The AGM of the Lotto Committee will be held at the Wallis Arms Hotel on Friday night March 18th at 7pm.
