Fondest greetings dear listeners and I wish you all the very best on this the first day of Spring.

Millstreet is rocking with celebrations again this week with our own local fair haired beauty, Áine Collins, being comfortably elected to Dail Eireann on behalf of Fine Gael. And in doing so she made history by being the first lady TD in this area since the foundation of the State. It has been a weekend of whirlwind celebrations, including a victory parade through the town on Sunday evening led by our pipe band. So it only remains for me to congratulate Áine and her team and wish her every success as she takes her place in Dál Éireann.

And I want to say well done to our County Council staff  who had the cleaned up  after March Fair and looking lovely again for Áine’s Parade.

This week, we will  have  another well-known personality, from the world of TV and Radio. Mr George Hook will come to our community school on this Wednesday night to open the end of term

Exhibition of Living Scenes. Mary Surlis from UCG  who founded the project will also be present. And please be reminded that all are welcome. Pass the word to those who may not have heard.

And we have still more to celebrate, Our pipe Band are about to celebrate 60 years of unbroken service at a gala event which will be held at the Dromhall Hotel Killarney on Saturday March 26th. Music by the ever popular Kelt, Tickets at €30 are available from any band member.

All those who intend taking part in our St Patrick’s Day parade at 5pm on March 17th please give your particulars to any committee member or to the Wallis Arms Hotel.

Out in Carriganima they will host their St. Patrick’s Day Parade on Sunday March 20th. with music provided by the popular Threshing Mill Boys. Those intending to take part in the Parade please give in your particulars to Seanie or Matt at the Pub.

Walking Festival in Millstreet organised by our Development group. It will be on April 9/10 ,with a well planned program to suit all needs.

On April 24 which is Easter Sunday,The Millstreet Vintage Club will hold   a repeat of last years highly successful  Monster Vintage Rally and Family Fun Day,  at the Green Glens Arena.Proceeds this year will be divided between our local Community Hospital and Our Canon O Donovan Centre.

Bingo in Banteer to-night €6,000 in prize money, mini Jackpot €2,800.

Irish Heart Foundation Church Gate Collection will be taken up this weekend March 5/6.

Poetry Course  continues at the Pastoral Centre this Saturday Mar. 5th from 2.30 to 4.30, all welcome.

Please ring IRD Duhallow for full information about a meeting that will be held at the JamesO Keeffe Institute on Thursday March 10th, which is aimed to help communities at all levels. And people of all ages. Their number as always 029 60633.

The Dromtarriffe Hall committee who have completely refurbishad their building are hosting a fundraising  comedy concert with  the ever popular Pakie O Callaghan & Frank Twomey, entitled Life After Santa Ponsa ,on Saturday March 5th. Please support it well.

A cake sale will be held at our Pastoral Centre ,after the 6.30 Vigil Mass on this Saturday March 5th . Proceeds to fund the 5th yr girls going as helpers to Lourdes with IHCPT.

Millstreet will celebrate World Book Night at our local Library on Saturday March 5th at 7pm. All welcome.

The weekly Weigh.In continues in Cullen every Monday night in aid of their Special Needs Association. Still time for you to join.

Still with Cullen their Pipe Band will hold a fundraising Cake Sale after 10.15 Mass on Sunday March 13th, and the band will play on the day.

30th Birthday Party coming up at the Clara Inn on Saturday March 12th for the Kelleher twins John and Denis. On the night Denis will have his head shaved in aid of Charity.

A note here from our Canon O Donovan Centre to say that they will deliver hot meals, for details give them at ring at 029 70926.

Our Citizens Advice Information Centre, and Adult Learning Centre will be open at our Main Street on Fri. March 3rd, from 10.30 to 12.30.

Duhallow Scor Na bPaisti finals take place over two stages this weekend. The recitation and novelty act goes ahead in Lismire on Friday night at 7.30pm with the remainder at the Edel Quinn Hall, Kanturk on Saturday  at 6pm.

Millstreet were defeated by Cullen in the Ducon Cup played in Cullen on Sunday.

Over the next couple of weeks you are going to hear a lot of the event called “Monstermac”

It is an adventure race taking part in the Millstreet Country Park on the 30th April 2011.

People from all over Ireland are coming to take part in the event.

It consists of two sections –

Sport Solo –  8km Trail run : 25km Road Bike  : Kayak 400m

This is for beginners in adventure racing)

Expert and Expert Relay teams – 8km Trail Run :  20km Road Bike : Mountain Run 8km  :  25km Road Bike  : Kayak 400m

(For the more experienced)

We require 50 Marshalls for the event.  Anyone interested in helping on the day can contact Maeve Neenan or Hannelie O’Connor.

Here are the results of this week’s parish lotto draw which was held at the Clara Inn on Sunday night.

Numbers drawn were, 4, 6, 11, 15 and the Jackpot was not won. €100 went to Susan Heelan, Boherbue the seller was  Margaret Murphy, and she got €50 sellers prize, €50 went to Gillian O Sullivan, Dooneen,€20 each Sheila Barrett, Aubane, Davy Tarrant, Tarrants Bar, Colm  Mullane , c/o Super Valu, The Tarrant Family, Liscreagh,  Brendan & Liz Hickey, Ballinagree,  Orla Kiely, Liscahane, Mary Gahan, Minor Row, and Denis Murphy, Cloghoulabeg.
