Well it’s all over, the night for Sean Radley’s retirement has come and gone, but will never be forgotten. February 19th 2011 will go down in the annals of Millstreet as a night of joyous celebration and a testament to community co-operation and goodwill.
The whole event from the start of the Vigil Mass in the church to the National anthem in the Green Glens has all been filmed and documented and preserved for posterity.
People came from all parts of the country and even London to join with us in paying honour to our beloved Sean. The Vigil Mass was concelebrated by Fr. Paddy O Byrne, Fr. Sean Tucker, Fr. Gerard O Leary and Fr James McSweeney. And the church choir attended. Sean who was accompanied by his many cousins from Dungarvan, Killarney Following the mass the pipe Band played as the people left the church. A Vintage car awaited our special guest to take him to the Green Glens where he was played-in again by the pipe band. And on entering the beautifully decorated arena he was met with loud applause from over six hundred people who turned up to honour him.
There was music song and dance, and lots of beautiful food. Best of all, on behalf of our community, Derry Morley chairman of the organising committee presented Sean Radley with a beautiful new Fiat Panda car. MC for the night was Marie Casey who graced the entire occasion with her beautiful and talented disposition. Entertainment was provided on the night by our local Comhaltas Group, By Ann Marie ORiordan and the Kelt, (Connie & Tom). And when Sean ended his response he raised the roof with his rendering of YOU ARE MY SUNSHINE with all present joining him in chorus.
This week’s program of LTV2 will include many scenes from the historic night.
And still with local TV. People may like to know that thanks to crew member Bernard Crowley , LTV2 programs can now be viewed on U-tube all over the world. And already we are getting response from as far away as Canada and New Zealand.So let your people know
Please be reminded that LTV are transmitting party political talks by all local candidates to-night and again tomorrow Wednesday night .
Vintage Rally at the Green Glens on Easter Sunday April 24th in aid of our Church Restoration Fund.
Out in Cullen they expect their new national school to be opened by September and are asking parents to enter beginners as they need to equip the rooms.
Still with Cullen, 40 people weighed-in last night and 70 pounds weight was lost.
The open event to mark the end of this terms Living Scenes at the Community School will be held on Wednesday March 2nd at 8pm. Founder of the project Mary Surlis of UCG will attend and the opening ceremony will be performed by the well-known TV personality George Hook. .All are welcome
The annual 45Drive in aid of Millstreet Community Hospital which had to be deferred during the snow will be held at the Green Glens Arena on this Sunday February 27th, stating at 8.45. Please support it well.

It’s that time of year again when our vibrant committee are preparing to host our annual St Patrick’s Day Parade. It will be held on Mach 17th at 5pm. Those wishing to take part please give notice as soon as possible to any committee member or contact Councillor Noel Buckley.
Meanwhile out in Carriganima on Sunday March 20th they are hosting a St. Patrick’s Day Parade and family fun day Music by the Cotton Mill Boys.
Entries can be handed in to Seanie or Matt at the Pub.

Millstreet enjoyed double success at the County Senior Scór Finals hosted in Ovens last Sunday night. Jerry Doody in recitation with a fine rendition of “Letter to My Father”.
While our question time team of Jerry Doody, Pat Sheehan and John Tarrant retained their county title. And they all progress to the Munster
Semi- Finals which will be held at Millstreet GAA Hall this Sunday Feb 27th at 3pm.
Before that, on this Saturday ,Millstreet hosts a semi final to the Duhallow Scor na bpaistí commencing at 7.45pm .
