Millstreet Celtic 2 Newmarket 1

Millstreet Celtic beat Newmarket 2-1 at home this morning (20/Feb/2011). They started well and had a couple of early chances for Michael Murphy and Chris Cleary, and it was no surprise they took the lead after 15 mins. Barry Lawlor produced a lovely bit of skill on the edge of the box to get himself one on one with the keeper and he made no mistake with the finish. 10 minutes later Paul Dawson picked up the ball in midfield and threaded a good ball through to Tadhg Collins who finished well to make it 2-0. Millstreet continued to make chances but failed to add to their lead which was cut to one just before half time. But, a Newmarket free broke loose in the box a was fired home to leave it 2-1 at half time. At the start of the second half Collins had a great chance to make it 3 but shot just wide after being put through by Lawlor. Shortly after it started to rain very heavily and both teams found it tough to manage the conditions. Cleary had a couple of good chances to put the game to rest but failed to take them and we had to survive a bit of a scramble in the box near the end to hold on for the win. Best for Millstreet on the day were Barry Lawlor, Finbarr Corcoran and John Lehane.
Team: Piotr Oziat, Finbarr Corcoran, Eamon O Keeffe, Trevor O Connor, Tim Kiely, Chris Cleary, John Lehane, Barry Lawlor, Michael Murphy, Tadhg Collins, Paul Dawson. Subs: Donal O Riordan (60th min), Donogh McCarthy (70th min).
