Dia is mhuire diobh go eir a cairde and welcome to news report 1046 from Millstreet. Fondest greetings dear listeners and I wish you all the very best on this calm rather wet Tuesday morning the 11th January 2011.

And still with the Wallis Arms the Party to celebrate the Women’s Christmas was an outstanding success there on the 6th of January. 172 women of all ages enjoyed good food  and wine, good music, scores of spot prizes  all for a mere €20 per ticket. And when all expenses were paid €340  was left over and it  was donated to Breast Cancer Research.

From once the first note was played by the popular Kelt the floor filled up with dancers and remained so till the National Anthem was played well after midnight.

The organiser Mairead Daly can take a bow for being the first one to hold a bash for the ladies, in Millstreet, on their Christmas night,  She wants to say a sincere word of thanks to all those who helped in any way to make it the outstanding success that it was.

Sadly, due to the huge demand for tickets, many were left without,  and so great was their disappointment that they have already booked  their place for next year.   Over 40% of   the tickets for next January are sold already.

Notes for Clara News are due in to the Editor on January 14th.and the next issue will be in the shops on January 30th.

There’s  big event on the pipeline by the people of Ballydaly. They will hold a re-union of their  GAA teams at the Wallis Arms Hotel on Friday January 21st .Music by the Kelt. Tickets at €25 each on sale over wide area.

That time has come round again, for the Sponsored Weigh-In in Cullen. It starts on Monday January 17th at 8.Please give it your usual wonderful support while wearing down the pounds.

One day Irish Course for 2011 Leaving Cert  Higher Course students will be held in the Killarney Avenue Hotel on Saturday  January 15th. Enquiries to 087 26 00 412.

Monthly  Community Council to-night at the Wallis Arms Hotel starting at  8.30.

We want to wish a very happy 60 birthday to Sean Radley, and further to that we are planning a wonderful retirement, from teaching, event in his honour at the Green Glens on Saturday February 19th.

Over the years Sean has helped countless numbers of people in countless of different ways ,and now we are asking for your help to make a presentation to him that is fitting for the great man that he is.

Monster Machinery Show at the Green Glens January 18,19,20.

Millstreet Christmas Committee (Millstreet Development Group) would like to thank everyone that gave their time, talents and advice, Those who donated money, equipment and resources and helped in any way to stretch their  budget to upgrade the Christmas decorations in the town this year.  They hope we have achieved our aim of creating a base  which they can to add to over the coming years and bring a festive atmosphere  to the town that we are all so proud of.

All the best in cultural entertainment  is promised in the Munster Scór na nOg semi finals which will be held at the Millstreet GAA Community Hall on this Saturday night at 7pm. Snow and ice postponed last weekend’s intended staging. Qualifiers from Cork, Kerry and Limerick  will compete in a mixed programme.

I want to send a sincere Get-Well wish to all those who are ill at the moment.

Here are the results of this week’s parish lotto draw which was held at the Clara Inn on Sunday night. Numbers drawn were, 1, 2, 9, 15 and the jackpot was not won. €100 went to Pat & Hansie O Sullivan, Altamount, the seller was the Credit Union and they got €50 sellers prize, €50 went to Siobhan Tarrant,Liscreagh, €20 each to Susan Spillane, Drishane, James Hickey ,Main St,  Kayleigh Sheehan ,Killarney Rd. David Tarrant of Tarrants Bar,  Madonna Fan c/o Shane Browne, Niall Murphy, Cloghoulabeg, Joan Sheehan, Minor Row and Noreen Keating , The Canon O Donovan Centre. Jackpot for next week €6,000 the draw at the Wallis Arms Hotel on Sunday night.
