Millstreet Snow Tour – Monday, 20th Dec. 2010

Meeting Teresa at one of Millstreet's most popular landmark shops in the Square on our Snow Tour today.

Our Snow Tour today begins as usual at Mount Leader having met John Twomey of An Post cheerfully delivering the Christmas post on foot – proceeding down through the field – by the kind permission of the owner –  (for safe footing sake) to Clara Road, onwards to West End where we note the schools are naturally closed in such wintery conditions.   We note further path clearing and view the Bridge and Main Street.   Soon we get to meet with Margaret who has just conquered Clara Mountain!  Down then to Minor Row and later back through the town observing the Christmas Tree which is now in place at St. Patrick’s Church, Millstreet.  A splendid moon lights up our way home.   Glad to be back in the warmth of the house where outside temperatures have begun to really fall as night arrives.   By Christmas Day it is predicted that a mildness will have emerged…hopefully!   Among the many website visitors who are apparently enjoying our current Snow Tours of Millstreet we wish to extend special seasonal greetings to All our Millstreet native Friends who live in Wales.

  1. These photos are excellent! Much better than any radio news. We got 6″ of snow in 2 hours last Saturday, in St Albans, and no sign of a thaw yet.
    -13* last night!

  2. Greetings from the USA!
Thank you for the wonderful slide show of the snow in Millstreet. It was great looking at the town a few days before Christmas. I hope that everyone is safe and sound. Last night we had snow here in Ipswich, MA, so we will have a white Christmas!
Thank you again & Merry Christmas!

  3. Great Photos Sean – Nice to see some of the Clara road and see what its like . Wishing you all a great Christmas , Conor / Fergal / Karl Sydney

  4. Great to hear from all our Millstreet Friends (and Ambassadors Supreme) from Sydney in a much warmer Australia. Conor, Fergal and Karl – we are delighted that you have been enjoying our virtual snow tours of your native Millstreet. By now a White Christmas may not be as attractive as what Bing Crosby sang about as we’re all hoping for a rise in temperature for milder weather. A very Happy Christmas to All and may a very Bright 2011 bring lots of good luck and much joy.

  5. Nice to see all the photos of Millstreet,I think we will get my sister Teresa a shovel for Christmas.Hopefully Sean, no recently retired teacher/pensioner will be found staggering around in the snow.

  8. Hi,
Left the computer logged on to Millstreet blog, my son and his friend thought it would be funny to post a joke about sausages.I suppose they could have written something worse.Hope the BBQ went well “down under”,sausages or not.

Photos of Comeenatrush were fantastic,I expect the BBQ was cancelled there.Keep up the good work.

  9. You’re grand Ted. the comments are only blocked as long as they’re not spam and not offencive to anyone. can’t bear to think about food at this stage after christmas

  10. Great to see all the photos especially the frozen waterfall. I am not a snow fan but all the work done on the web is great. I wish you well Sean and keep up the good work. Off now to do some fiddle playing in a local pub-keeping polkas and slides alive in Manchester

  11. Thank you very much, Jerry & All in Manchester. We were only too glad to share the snowy images of the past fortnight with all our website visitors. Congrats. on your consistent magnificent promotion of Irish traditional music played with such energy, enthusiasm and professionalism.

  12. Sean, I was delighted to see a photo of you and Teresa having what looks like an animated chat outside Barrett’s shop. Barretts is as legendary as Dola’s. Many a secret was shared outside Barretts. That photo brought back a lot of memories for me including Teresa’s Auntie Bridie; God rest her.

  13. Elizabeth, precious memories indeed. I would totally agree how hugely important and wonderful both Dola’s and the Barrett Family Shops were for all of us who grew up in Millstreet. We’re delighted that you are such a loyal visitor to our website and we thank you for communicating with us.

  14. Although not living far away from the Sráid here in Cobh it is great to visit the Millstreet web site and keep up with all the news from home. The photos over the last few weeks have been terrific. I see my brother, Jerry, has been in touch as well! I expect that the pipe band will be parading tonight up the town!
All the best for 2011 from the Cobh McSweeneys!

  15. The pipe band on New Years Eve has brought back a few memories.Usually the parade is around 9pm because Millstreet is 3 hours ahead of the rest of Ireland!!!.
Danny(Murphys Tce and Cardiff)you are on the right track.

Happy New Year to all in Sráid.
