The people of Cullen enjoyed great celebrations recently when Arch Bishop Raymond Leo Burke of St Louis, came to visit. His forebears came from the Cullen area and his cousins the Cremin, Burke, and McSweeney still live there and came to meet him. He was appointed Prefect of the Supreme Tribunal of the Apostolic Signatura, by his Holiness the Pope, which is equal to Chief Justice of the United States Supreme Court. Archbishop Burke could very well be in line for Pope at some future point. Last week the West Coast of Clare resounded to the sound of music at the Willie Clancy week in Miltown Malbay, with many fans from the South making the journey for their annual feast of traditional entertainment. And to continue the trend I have a note from Jack Roche to say that the weekly sessions have resumed at Bruaic na Carraige,Rockchapel, on Tuesday nights for July and August starting at 9pm. Great nights not to be missed, great place to take visitors and tourists.

The Church Gate Collection in Millstreet this weekend July 17th/18th will be in aid of our local Hospital Fund.

Some of the flowers and plants in the town were vandalised over the weekend and
our hearts go out to the members of our Tidy Towns committee who work so hard to keep Millstreet looking good. And we are appealing to these vandals to refrain from such behaviour in future.
This year will see the annual competition for the best frontage, both private and commercial. Judging goes on over the Summer months after which the winners are announced. So keep up the pressure.
Banteer Show is on this weekend, on Sunday July 18th, Starting at 1.30, Admission is free, It’s a real Family Day, Bouncing Castles, Pony Rides, Equestrian events, also horticultural section.
At our lovely Country Park this weekend they have the Chris Pardoe Memorial Vintage Run added to all their usual attractions.

Millstreet will play host to the Humphrey Kelleher Memorial U15 Football Cup Final on Saturday.
The tournament remembered a great exponent in Millstreet and Cork football who helped Cork capture the 1973 All Ireland Senior Football Championship title.
The preliminary rounds operate in Dromtariffe and Millstreet from 10.30am
Millstreet face Ballinascarthy in the Regional Minor Hurling Championship in Ovens on this Thursday at 7.30pm.
