Dia is mhuire diobh go leir a cairde and welcome to news report 1010 from Millstreet. Fondest greetings dear listeners and I wish you all the very best on this lovely soft but breezy Tuesday morning. This week I’d like to convey our heartiest congratulations to my dear brother, Bro. Vincent Corkery, of the De La Salle order who has been working in Malaysia for over sixty years and in appreciation of him great work, the Sultan of Perak (head of state in Perak, Malaysia) of that country conferred him with the highest honour in the land, namely the DATO title. It would be the equivalent of knighthood in this part of the world. He loves Ireland and comes home every year, but his Heart is in his beloved Malaysia. In accepting this great honour he said he was taking it on behalf of all missionaries, who worked in that land including all the Sisters of the Dishane Order .

Many congratulations to our own Sean Radley on receiving a very prestigious Award at UCC recently.

Please take note that the ever popular Annual Cloghoula Pattern Day will be held at the school grounds on Bank Holiday Monday May 3rd with all the usual attractions. Ballydaly Sports and Leisure Day on May 16th.

Disabled Drivers church gate collection which was taken up recently in Millstreet, Cullen and Ballydaly amounted to € 2,269.53. The National Association would like to thank all those who contributed.

Our Knitting Club meetings are held every Thursday night from 7 to 9 at the Adult Learning Centre in the Main Street. They are looking for any left over wool and threads that people may have . Large or small amounts would be welcome. Contact any member or myself if you can help. New members are always welcome. There is an instructor at hand who will teach any kind of craft. Please remember that the Citizens advice service is opened at the same venue on the first Tuesday of every month.

All roads lead to Turners Cross in Cork on Saturday May 1st to see Millstreet Celtic take on Glenvale in the final of the Saxone Cup, This exciting contest kicks off at 7.30 please give our lads your full support. We wish them the best of good luck.

The Garden Fete will be held in Drishane on Sunday May 30th for the first time in twenty years, Proceeds to Baby Jacob. Kilcorney two- Feis on the same weekend.

Cadburys Ireland having hosted a very successful table Quiz at Knocknagree recently in aid of the Cullen Special Needs Association will hold a 45Drive for the same cause in Cullen on Bank Holiday Monday May 3rd starting at 9pm. Admission €10, refreshments will be served. €1,000 in prizes.

Monster Table Quiz at Tarrants Bar in Millstreet on Friday April 30th starting at 9. Tables of four €40, proceeds to Los Zarcos Football Club.

Big celebrations at Kanturk Golf Course last week when Jack Murphy Clara, scored a hole in one.

There is a Drop In centre now at our Youth Club where young people from 2nd years up can come on Thursday nights from 7 to 9. Admission €1. Fully supervised.

The weekly Clean-Up goes on . To-morrow Wednesday evening all meet at the Square at 7.30 to clean up from Minor Row to Coole Cross.

Our lovely Country Park is open every day with all its beautiful attractions. And I want to wish their Sales Lady Joannie McAullife every success in the Rose of Tralee contest.

This week marks the final program of LTV for this Season. So don’t miss it. On at all the usual times. AGM of LTV2 on Tuesday May 4th.

Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament in our Blessed Sacrament Chapel every Wednesday from 10.30 am to 8.30 pm. Drop in any time. Mass at Tubrid Well on Friday May 21st at 8pm.

A note here from IRD Duhallow to say that they will host an information evening at the James O’Keeffe Institute in Newmarket on Tuesday May 4th, It’s all to do with Pensions, Social Welfare Rights etc. Light refreshments will be served. Starts at on Tuesday May 4th.

Here are the results of this week’s parish lotto draw which was held at the Clara Inn on Sunday night. Numbers drawn were 3, 10, 11, 24 and the Jackpot was not won. €100 went to Nathan Harman, Liscahane. The Seller was Mairead Daly and she got €50 sellers prize €50 went to the Kiely Family c/o Shane Browne, €20 each to John Healy Station Rd, Cliana Coughlan, Kilcorney, John D, Denise and Molly Buckley, Kilmeedy, The Healy Family, Murphys Terrace. Brendan Hickey Ballinagree, Allen O Leary c/o James. Denis Healy Claracleagh, and Shane Browne. Jackpot for next week, €4,200 the draw at the Wallis Arms on Sunday night.

    1. Hi pat, you’re right that photos etc need as much info as possible, and we are for the more recent photos, as the systems are now in place for that (with some house cleaning to do). The older photos don’t really have much of a description attached to them. But you know, sometimes we get photos without any description (and we can’t describe it), but the attached article usually puts the photo into context.
      But thanks for the compliments and glad you’re looking in.
