It was all systems go in Cullen Community Centre on Mon. Feb.1st for the 25th annual sponsored weigh in. It was great to renew acquaintances from previous years and also to welcome many new faces. It was a big night for us as the weigh in had been postponed by two weeks due to the inclement weather in January.

Also present on the night was a number of invited guests from the various centres where our special friends are educated or cared for, including Conor Counihan, C.E.O. of St. Joseph’s Foundation, Charleville, Mr Jerry Mullane, COPE Mallow and Cork, Mary Fogarty, COPE Kanturk, Catherine Moriarty, Marian House and Fr. Corridan Centre, Rathmore and Tony Dermody, The Monastery, Killarney and Kerry Parents and Friends.

Following our fundraising ventures over the past few years we were in a happy position to make to them each a financial presentation. They all replied and expressed their sincere gratitude and deepest appreciation for this financial boost. They paid tribute to the generosity of the Association and their many supporters who support the various fundraising projects.  Due to Government cut backs in funding, they added that, this year more than ever, their needs are greater more than ever. Voluntary fundraising is hugely important to enable these centres to achieve high standard and services to care for those with special needs.

WEIGH – IN The Annual sponsored weigh-in is continuing on Monday nights. Aerobics with Tina Dunstan / Hannah O’Connor are very popular, Dr. Casey monitors the weigh-in and some great music follows to the beat of our local musicians. Please note final night is on March 29th., when we hope to see every body back for the final results and presentation of prizes. A total of 150 sponsorship cards have been issued to date.

Final Night March 29th.
