I attended that meeting held in the Vocational School in Cullen.Sean Cooney was an inspirational teacher.I still have all of the woodwork and Technical drawings I did in his classes during the school year1959-60.I remember that Cullen Technical School won B Co. Cork VEC championship in 1960.I have met him a few times since and talked about those happy days.

I remember the 1960 team, I played on that team we beat Lomberstown in te Final, Sean Cooney was the teacher in Lomberstown that year. We played in a field down by the river that year, we had a good team that year.
I know there as a picture in the entrance to the Technical School, does any one have a copy, love to have one.

Cullen first won the VEC championship in April 1957.They beat Lombardstown 3-7 to 2-5 after extra time. The game was played on Sonny Howards land in a field which he called The Horseshoe Inch as the Araglen river bordered the field resembling a horseshoe. As we walked home from Primary school we met Cullen Pipe band leading both teams as they marched from the Tech to the pitch.Aframed photograph hung high up inside the front door of the school for years.after. The school closed in 1964.Dan Murray who played and lost two All Ireland finals with Cork was with Lombardstown that day.He later taught in Millstreet VEC School.A huge crowd turned up for the match.Sean Cooney came to teach inCullen in 1958.
