Fondest greetings dear listeners and I wish you all the very best on this the second day of Spring February 2nd Candlemus Day, the day when candles are blessed for use on our alters during the year and donations accepted to cover their cost.

Last week members of our Tidy Towns Association, buried a capsule at the Wild-Life Plot in the Clara Road  and it will not be opened for 50 years. It contains over 40  various items. Some children from our National Schools were present for the ceremony, and when it will be opened again in 2060, they will be able to say that they were there on the day it was put down.

Our first Knitting Club starts at the same venue this Thursday night. All welcome. Details from 087 2110143.And be reminded that all of your knitting needs are available at Tagney’s Shop up the Street.

A Million congratulations to Millstreet, on winning
the Munster Scór na nOg Finals in the instrumental music category in Mallow last Sunday.Team members were Alanna Barry, Kelly Murphy, Cian Dennehy, Donal and James Linehan.  Their success secures Millstreet a place in the All Ireland final in Athlone on Saturday, February 20.
Millstreet enjoyed success in the Duhallow Senior Scór finals at Kanturk Golf club last Saturday night. Winning their way, in the novelty act/ and Question Time,with Conor Linehan  runner up place in the solo singing     and Millstreet  second place in the instrumental music.

I got a note from someone this week who is clearly very upset at the fact that dogs are allowed to foul our graveyards. Goes so far as to say that some people  take them in there for their daily run which leads to the problem in question. All  we can do is to ask them to refrain from this habit which is causing so much  grief and upset to those who have loved ones buried there.

Our Citizens Advise Centre is opened to-day on the Main St. from 1.30 to 3.30 and they are looking for volunteers.

Nominations have to be in this week for the Community Council Awards Social which will be held at the Wallis Arms Hotel on Friday March 12. Categories are, Hall of Fame, Youth Award, Cultural / Arts, Unsung Hero, and Service to the Community. Names of the people of your choice can be given to Council Secretary Marie Burke, or to any Member.

The Marian Players in Rathmore are all set for another season of Pantomime. This year its Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. Matinees on Sunday February 14th and 21st. Night shows Tuesday16th. Thursday 18thy and Saturday Feb. 20th .Starting each night at 8pm.

The Annual Weigh-In  ,organised by the Cullen and District Special Needs Association,started off  in Cullen for the 25th year, on Monday night and will continue on Monday nights for the next six weeks. Well over 100 cards handed out on their first night. Please support it well.

Hats off to school boy, Adam Buiche who is offering to have his long locks shaved off in aid of local charities. Sponsorship cards are available over a wide area,so support him well.He’s a great lad.

To-morrow, Wednesday is the Feast of St. Blaise, Please take note that there will be no ten o clock morming Mass because of the requim mass at 12noon for Peter Dinneen. Wednesday  Evening Masses for the blessing of the throats will be in Cullen at 7pm and in Millstreet at 8pm.

Here are the results of this week’s parish Lotto draw which was held at Tarrants Bar on Sunday night. Numbers drawn were, 4, 5, 7, 22 and the Jackpot was not won. €100 went to Susan Murphy. Ballydaly, the seller was Joan Casey and she got €50 sellers prize. €50 went to Tim Lucey Keale. €20 each to Anna Mc Carthy, The Square, Christy and John,
