Fondest greetings dear listeners and I wish you all the very best on this cold, wet and windy Tuesday morning, 1st of December.

A cookery demonstration entitled “Tastes of Christmas” will be held at our Community School tomorrow, Wednesday night. December2nd, with Master Chef Frank Moynihan doing the cooking. Admission €10. Proceeds to Baby Jacob.The Irish Heart Foundation and Cystic Fibrosis. Starts at 8, all welcome.

Cairde Muintir Mhuire will host “Prayer Through Song” with the renowned Gospel singer David Parkes at St. Colemans Church in Macroom, to-night December1st.  Starts at 8, Doors opened at 7.15, admission €10. Proceeds to the Cairde Muintir Mhuire Fund.

The “Sounds of Advent Concert” which was held at our Parish Church on Sunday night was an outstanding success. The renovation work on the church is still ongoing so there was a massive clean-up operation on the closing days of last week to get the place spick ‘n span on time for Sunday nights performance. People came in large numbers, armed with brushes ‘n mops, dusters and polishes, candles and  flowers and never drew rein till our church was shown off in all its beauty,warmth and light. The  two hour concert included, our Millstreet Parish Choir, The Kerry Choral Society and soloist Fr. Tony Mullins from Limerick. All gave outstanding performances, with our own choir coming in for special mention. All in all it was a wonderful event thanks to a lot of hard work by a lot of people.

This weekend we look forward to the Concerts at Drishane Castle in aid of Baby Jacob. The first on  Friday night December4th. Starting at 8.p.m followed owed by a matinee on Sunday December6th. Again with a star-studded list of entertainers and all proceeds will go to the Baby Jacob Fund. Contact the Green Glens for details 029 70800.

Many congratulations to Billy and Ellen at our Wallis Arms Hotel on the launch of their beautiful newly refurbished premises which took place on Saturday night last, December28th. A very large crowd turned up to wish them well for the future. Special guest was comedian Alan Short, and the tape was cut by Councillor Noel Buckley. They are open for parties big or small, meals every day, plus first class accommodation ,and  a cosy, friendly bar.

The annual 45Drive in aid of our local Hospital takes place on Tuesday December  8th starting at 8.45.at the Green Glens.

Well done to the lovely Maurice O’Keeffe, Kiskeam on his wonderful account of Sliabh Luachra on TG4 on Sun night.

Christmas is fast approaching, always a busy time for our Post Office. And our post-mistress Trish wants to remind you of what they have to offer: Book of 26 stamps €13.75 and with it you will get a special card that you can send away with the chance of winning €1000. Our Community Council will make a presentation to Fr. Gerard O Leary, who has been transferred to Killarney, at the Wallis Arms Hotel on Tuesday night of next  week December 8th. I have been asked to accept donations from those who would like to be associated with this pleasant function.  Please take note of the date December 8th. My mobile number 086 316 32 85.

A notice from our busy Development Group who are intent on making this a great Christmas for Millstreet amid all the doom, ‘n gloom. The Christmas lights will be switched on at nightfall on December4th.Be  there to cheer them And from December  17th Christmas Eve they will have a Marquee in the Square each afternoon with a Christmas Market. With Seasonal Music. Carol singers from our schools will be in the Town-Centre on December 18th ,19th & 20th. Santa will be at the Youth Centre on 18th & 19th ,from 1 to 4pm and to entice people to spend at home this year they have vouchers to suit any pocket at out Credit Union which can be used in many of our stores. So lets all get together in these difficult times.

The recent bad weather had an adverse effect on our transmitters on the local hills. Members of our crew accompanied by Dan Joe Kelleher spent long hours, on high over the weekend in an effort to have them up and running again. And ever though everybody works for nothing, breakages and general maintainance costs money, and we could do with some financial help in order to keep going. We bring a lot of joy to a lot of people and  want to continue doing so. So please answer our plea.

Here are the results of this week’s parish Lotto draw which was held at the Bush Bar on Sunday night. Numbers drawn were 1,10, 16,22 and the Jackpot was not won. €100 went to Helena O Callaghan, Kiskeam, the seller was Tarrants Bar and they got €50 sellers prize, €50 went to Jerry O Keeffe, Fermoy, €20 each to Colin Healy, Murphys Tce, Marie O Sullivan, Dooneen, Joan Wall, Station Rd. Domnic Lawlor, Clara Rd, Sheila Lane Adrivale, Jerry Scannell Millstreet, Tina Neenan, Ballydaly, and Mary O Sullivan, Cloghoulabeg. Jackpot for next week €16,000 the draw at Corkerys Bar on Sunday night. And as I said last week, if the jackpot is not won by  December 20th it will be divided as the committee sees fit.   The winners drawn from the drum on that night.

Millstreet incurred a defeat to Kilbrin in the Duhallow Under 21 Hurling Championship semi final played in Meelin last Sunday.

SCOR
Millstreet gained a rewarding outing to the Duhallow Scor na nOg Finals hosted in the Edel Quinn Hall, Kanturk last Sunday. Millstreet won in both the solo singing and instrumental music.
They go forward to the Cork County Semi Finals of Scór na nOg in Millstreet GAA Community Hall on next Saturday night commencing at 7pm .
