No less than 62 people of varying ages took part in the Great Walk along the mountain top from Killarney to Kenmare on Sunday last. It was planned by Jerry Pat as a fund-raiser for the building of houses for the homeless of Haiti. The weather was great which made the long trek all the more enjoyable. This is a walk that many people have intended to do over the years ,but through lack of motivation & leadership, they just didn’t get going. Fundraising aside there are valuable lessons to be learned by the venture. Due to the recession people will have to start thinking, away from money, for entertainment. And a leadership like Jerry’s would go a long way to alleviate the stresses & strains of life as well as being a healthy keep fit idea.
Further to Sundays walk, another event for the same cause is coming up in the form of a Gala B.B.Q. It will be held at McCarthy’s Bar on Sat Aug 15th run by our Millstreeet Ladies Soccer team as their contribution to the building fund. Please support it well. Starts at 7 Tickets €10 each.
Jerry Pat is part of a group , entitled “Haven” who will travel to Haiti in October to help with the building of houses for the homeless in that country.
